98-CFTii5000LC NOTES
This bearing assembly comes dis-assembled from Penn.
We've noted two different designs in the plastic parts of it.
The one that came out of a sample reel was slightly wider rimed on the outer piece with the loop that the whole assembly seats on, and a rim on the inner plastic tubular frame that seats into the outer piece.
The ones that came from Penn on order are slightly narrower on the diameter of the outer piece with the loop, and the inner plastic tubular frame has no lip, it just locks down into the outer piece.
TO ASSEMBLE:
Apply some Penn blue grease to the tubular frame that will help to hold the pins in place. You will note there are tiny flexible frames that hold each pin into the tube. Insert pins gently. Without grease they will fall out. Once all pins are in the tube, put the metal sleeve in the center and seat the tube into the outer plastic piece. Cap it with the outer metal ring.
It's installed in the reel onto the pinion with the flat side down towards the housing body and the rounded top towards the rotor cup. See schematic for how to place the parts around it on the pinion.
